The Hygrophila stricta is a beautiful, decorative Aquatic plant. In the Aquarium it will spread fast and create bright green, long and wide leaves. New shoots will spread from the stem and make the plant look bushier. If this plant is allowed to grow above the water surface (open tank) it will produce purple flowers which have a pleasant scent. It is a fast growing plant and it doesn't require any special care and will grows strongly on their basic aquarium setup. It manages with medium lighting and hard water.
Hygrophila stricta is a super hard plant and doesn't need special lighting, excess CO2 and fertilizers. It is generally placed in the background or midground of an aquarium and they decorate it. Fine gravel, Sand or Aquarium soil are the perfect substrate for this Aquatic plant because it allows the plant to root strongly and they get nutrients for them to survive. This plant cannot be kept in a nano tank. Minimum tank size of 10 gallons is required for keeping Hygrophila. A good nutrient supply is beneficial for this plant.
The addition of trace minerals after each water change will promote healthy growth. These plants are easily propagated by cuttings. These aquarium plants are very fast growers. So in order to prevent the plant from taking over the whole tank we will need regular pruning. To keep the plants looking tidy, we will need to remove the dead leaves from the lower layer.
