Here is a comprehensive guide to caring for a Ficus bonsai:
1. Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Place your Ficus bonsai in a location where it can receive plenty of light, such as near a south-facing window.
Avoid direct, harsh sunlight, which can scorch the leaves, especially in the afternoon.
While they can tolerate lower light conditions than many other bonsai species, they will not grow as vigorously or develop as well. If you don't have enough natural light, a grow light can be a great supplement.
Ficus bonsai can be placed outdoors during the warmer months, but be sure to acclimate them gradually to direct sun to prevent leaf burn.
2. Watering
Water when the top of the soil feels slightly dry to the touch. The soil should be kept evenly moist, but never waterlogged.
Water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot. This ensures that the entire root ball is saturated.
