Calathea Ornata Bushy

Calathea ornata is admired for its elegant, dark green leaves decorated with fine pink pinstripes that look hand-painted. The undersides of the foliage are a rich purple, adding to its ornamental appeal. A bushy, well-grown specimen creates a lush, full appearance, making it a premium foliage plant for indoor spaces. It is part of the prayer plant family, meaning the leaves gently move up and down with light changes.

Care Tips

Light
Prefers bright indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can fade the pinstripes and burn leaves. Too little light slows growth.

Watering
Keep soil consistently lightly moist. Do not allow it to fully dry out. Use filtered, RO, or rainwater if possible, as Calatheas are sensitive to minerals and chlorine.

Soil
Use a loose, well-draining mix that retains some moisture. A mix containing cocopeat, perlite, and compost works well.

Temperature
Ideal range: 18–30°C. Protect from cold air, AC drafts, and sudden temperature changes.

Humidity
Loves high humidity. Dry air can cause brown edges. Bathrooms, kitchens, or use of a humidifier help.

Fertilizer
Feed mildly during active growth (spring/summer) every 4–6 weeks with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
