The ideal houseplant to make a large impression in little places is the Aloe Black Velvet (Aloe reginula). The elephant ear moniker for the majority of the Alocacia genus plants comes from their huge, heart- or arrow-shaped, tropical-looking leaves. Black velvet is smaller and grows considerably more slowly than many other members of the genus. Due to its small size, it is also referred to as a jewel alocasia. The blossoms on this plant are not the reason you grow it. It rarely flowers, and when it does, the white inflorescence is not particularly noticeable. Instead, the striking silver veins on the thick, textured, dark green (nearly black) foliage of this eye-catching evergreen perennial are what set it apart. It's not always a plant for people with green fingers.
