Philodendron Nangaritense is a tropical aroid native to the rainforests of Ecuador, prized for its large, heart-shaped leaves with a velvety or glossy texture and striking growth form. The lady-like foliage often emerges with a slight reddish tint on petioles (leaf stems) before maturing to deep green. It’s considered a rare and collector-worthy plant among philodendron enthusiasts.
Prefers bright, indirect light — similar to filtered light under a forest canopy.
Can tolerate medium light, but growth will be slower and leaves may be smaller.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch delicate leaves.
Water when the top ~1–2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.
Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged — good drainage is essential.
Overwatering can lead to root rot; reduce watering somewhat in cooler months.
Use a chunky, well-draining mix, such as potting soil + perlite + orchid bark.
A pot with drainage holes is essential to prevent water build-up.
Repot every 1–2 years or when roots start to crowd the container.
Ideal temperature: ~65–80°F (18–27°C).
Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature drops.
Humidity: Likes moderate to high humidity (60%+) — misting or pebble trays can help.
During active growth (spring/summer), feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4–6 weeks.
Reduce feeding in fall and winter when growth slows.
