Welcome to our guide to anthurium vittarifolium care. This anthurium originates from South America, and is known for its long, narrow leaves which can grow to over 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length if given the right conditions. The leaves look like long leathery green neckties. It is a really unique plant that is without doubt one of the highest on my wish list at the moment. Medium to bright indirect sunlight. Do not give it any direct sunlight.

How Often to Water

Check your anthurium once a week and water it if the top 50% of soil is dry. They do not like to be soggy, but do not like to dry out totally. I use my finger to check the soil weekly.

Fertilizer

Feed once a month in summer, with a well-diluted fertilizer which is high in nitrogen to encourage leaf growth.

When To Repot

Repot up a size in Spring if the roots grow through the bottom of the current pot.

60-70% humidity, they like above normal household humidity levels. This is the key to good anthurium vittarifolium care.

How To Propagate Anthurium Vittarifolium

You need to wait until the plant has a smaller ‘pup’ plant growing at it’s base. Then separate out pups by taking the plant out of its soil, and removing the pups, making sure to be really careful to not damage the plant. You can then leave them for half a day or so, so that any damaged parts heal over. Then pot all the plants up separately.

Is It Toxic To Cats?

They contain calcium oxalate, which is toxic to cats and can cause numbness, and vomiting, so contact your vet immediately if your cat has eaten any.

Be careful with overwatering, although they like humidity and moisture, sitting in soggy soil is one of the biggest killers as it can cause root rot fairly easily. Dryness and crispiness of leaves can be common, and implies lack of moisture or humidity, make sure the plant is watered and has enough humidity.
