Black ZZ Aurea (sometimes called ZZ Raven for the black form, and ZZ Aurea/Gold for the golden-new-growth form). These are varieties of Zamioculcas zamiifolia, so their care is very similar.

Light

• Bright, indirect light is ideal.

• Tolerates low light, but growth will slow.

• Avoid strong direct sun—it can scorch leaves (especially new yellow/gold Aurea growth).

Watering

• Water only when the soil is completely dry.

• Typically every 2–4 weeks, depending on your environment.

• ZZ plants are drought-tolerant; overwatering is the #1 way to kill them.

Soil

• Use a well-draining mix.

• Aroid mix or cactus mix + perlite works great.

Humidity

• Normal household humidity is fine.

• No special misting needed.

Temperature

• Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C).

• Keep away from cold drafts and temps under 50°F (10°C).

Fertilizing

• Feed lightly once a month during spring–summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer.

• No fertilizer needed in fall/winter.

Growth Notes (Variety-Specific)

• ZZ Aurea (Gold Form): New leaves emerge yellow/golden, then gradually turn green.

• ZZ Raven (Black Form): New leaves emerge lime green, then turn dark purple/black over a few weeks.
