Echinopsis inermis 🌵
(Spineless Hedgehog Cactus / Smooth Easter Lily Cactus)
Cactus Echinopsis Inermis is a charming, nearly spineless cactus with a smooth, rounded body and beautiful large, fragrant white or pinkish blooms. It’s an easy-care cactus that thrives in bright light and dry conditions — perfect for beginners or collectors.
Cactus Echinopsis Inermis Needs: Bright light to full sun (at least 4–6 hours daily).
Best spot: South- or west-facing window.
Tip: Gradually acclimate to full sun to prevent stem burn if grown indoors.
Ideal: 20–30°C during the day, 10–18°C at night.
Tolerates: Down to 5°C briefly, but protect from frost.
Cactus Echinopsis Inermis Spring–Summer: Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry (every 10–14 days).
Autumn–Winter: Very little watering — once a month or less.
Avoid: Overwatering or standing water (root rot risk).
Tip: “Soak and dry” method works best.
Needs: Fast-draining cactus or succulent mix.
Best mix: 50% cactus soil + 25% coarse sand + 25% perlite/pumice.
Optional: Add a layer of gravel or small stones at the bottom of the pot.
Use terracotta or clay pots with drainage holes.
Repot every 2–3 years in spring when roots fill the pot or soil gets compact.
During the growing season (spring–summer): Use a balanced, diluted cactus fertilizer every 3–4 weeks.
Stop feeding in winter.
Produces large, white, fragrant flowers that open at night or early morning and last about a day.
Blooms best after a cool, dry winter rest and good sunlight.
Cactus Echinopsis Inermis | Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Soft or rotting base | Overwatering | Let soil dry fully; remove damaged parts |
| Shriveling | Underwatering or cold | Lightly water and move to warmer area |
| No flowers | Insufficient light or no dormancy | Give full sun and reduce water in winter |
Offsets (pups):
Remove small offsets once they’re ⅓ the size of the parent.
Let callous 2–3 days.
Plant in dry, sandy soil and water lightly after 5 days.
Seeds: Possible but slow to grow.
