Here’s a complete Cinnamon Tree care guide:
🌞 Light
Cinnamon trees thrive in bright, indirect sunlight to partial sun.
If outdoors, choose a spot with morning sun and light afternoon shade.
Indoors, place near a south or east-facing window with plenty of light.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Prefers warm tropical to subtropical climates (25–35°C).
Avoid cold drafts or frost — it cannot tolerate temperatures below 15°C.
Loves high humidity — mist the leaves or use a pebble tray in dry climates.
💧 Watering
Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged.
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.
In winter, reduce watering slightly but don’t let the soil dry out completely.
🌱 Soil
Needs well-draining, rich soil.
Ideal mix: garden soil + compost + sand (2:1:1) or a tropical plant mix.
pH: 5.5–7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral).
🍽️ Fertilizer
Feed every 2 months during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with organic compost or liquid seaweed fertilizer.
Avoid strong chemical fertilizers — cinnamon prefers gentle feeding.
✂️ Pruning
Prune lightly once a year to shape the tree and remove weak or crossing branches.
Pruning also encourages new shoots — the bark from young stems is what’s harvested as cinnamon.
🌿 Propagation
Usually grown from seeds or stem cuttings.
Seeds should be fresh (they lose viability quickly).
Semi-hardwood cuttings can root if kept in warm, humid conditions with rooting hormone.
🪴 Pot Growing Tips
Start in a 10–12 inch pot with drainage holes.
Repot every 2–3 years to refresh soil and give more root space.
Keep outdoors in warm weather and move indoors during cold months.
🐛 Pests & Problems
Generally pest-resistant, but may attract:
Scale insects or mealybugs – remove with neem oil spray.
Leaf drop or yellowing – often due to overwatering or poor drainage.
🌳 Harvesting
After 2–3 years, stems can be cut near the base, and the outer bark peeled to collect cinnamon.
New shoots will regrow from the cut base.
🌺 Fun Fact
True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is native to Sri Lanka and has a sweet, delicate aroma, while cassia cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) is stronger and more pungent.
