Echinopsis subdenudata (commonly known as Easter Lily Cactus or Domino Cactus) is a beautiful, easy-to-grow cactus prized for its round, spineless body and large white fragrant flowers that bloom at night. 🌙✨
Echinopsis Subdenudata Needs: Bright light with several hours of direct sunlight daily.
Best spot: South or west-facing window.
Note: Gradually acclimate to full sun to avoid sunburn if it’s been indoors.
Ideal range: 20–30°C during the day, 10–18°C at night.
Tolerates: Light cold down to 5°C for short periods, but protect from frost.
Echinopsis Subdenudata Spring–Summer: Water deeply when the soil is completely dry (every 10–14 days).
Autumn–Winter: Reduce to once a month or less — avoid keeping soil wet in cool weather.
Tip: Use the “soak and dry” method; never let it sit in water.
Needs: Well-draining cactus mix.
Best mix: 50% cactus soil + 25% coarse sand + 25% perlite/pumice.
pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (6.0–7.0).
Use: Terracotta or clay pots with drainage holes.
Repot: Every 2–3 years in spring when roots fill the pot.
During growth (spring–summer): Use a diluted cactus fertilizer (low nitrogen, high potassium and phosphorus) every 3–4 weeks.
Do not fertilize during dormancy (autumn–winter).
Blooms at night with large, white, trumpet-shaped flowers that last about 1 day.
Needs bright light and slight cool rest in winter to trigger blooms.
Echinopsis Subdenudata | Issue | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Soft or mushy stem | Overwatering | Let soil dry fully; treat with fungicide if rot starts |
| Shriveling | Underwatering or cold | Water slightly or adjust temperature |
| No flowers | Insufficient light or no winter rest | Give full sun and reduce watering in winter |
Offsets (pups): Gently remove when they reach ¼ size of parent, let callous for 2–3 days, then plant in dry cactus mix.
Seeds: Can be used but slow-growing.
