Peperomia obtusifolia is a compact, evergreen tropical plant with thick, glossy, fleshy leaves. ‘Golden Gate’ is a beautiful variegated form, recognized for its green leaf centres with warm yellow-to-cream margins.
☀️ Light
- Prefers bright, indirect light.
- A few hours of gentle morning light is fine.
- Avoid strong afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Good light helps maintain its attractive golden variegation.
💧 Watering
- Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry before watering again.
- Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain.
- Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet—overwatering is one of the main causes of root rot.
- Its thick leaves and stems store water, so it prefers slightly drying out between waterings.
🌱 Soil
Use a loose, airy and fast-draining potting mix.
A good mix:
- Cocopeat
- Perlite
- Compost
- Small amount of bark or other chunky material
Always use a pot with drainage holes.
