The Parlour Palm is incredibly forgiving, making it a reliable staple for low-maintenance indoor greening. Follow this streamlined protocol to keep its fronds vibrant:
Thrives in medium, indirect light but adapts remarkably well to low-light corners where other plants struggle. Keep it entirely out of direct sunlight, which quickly bleaches and burns the thin leaves.
Requires a loose, peat-based potting mix that retains a touch of moisture but drains rapidly. A blend of 60% standard potting soil/cocopeat, 20% perlite, and 20% organic compost works perfectly.
Water thoroughly when the top half of the soil has dried out. It prefers being slightly underwatered rather than overwatered. In lower light conditions, reduce watering frequency significantly to avoid soggy roots.
While it enjoys moderate humidity, it handles dry indoor air much better than most tropical palms. Keep it clear of freezing air-conditioning drafts and intense heaters to avoid crisping the leaf tips.
An extremely light feeder. Apply a half-strength, balanced liquid fertilizer once a month only during the active growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilize at all during the cooler winter months.
