Zebra Plant – Aphelandra squarrosa

Zebra Plant (Aphelandra squarrosa) is a striking tropical houseplant admired for its glossy dark-green leaves with bold white veins and its vibrant yellow flower spikes. It thrives in bright, indirect light and should be protected from harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels slightly dry, and ensure the pot has good drainage. Zebra Plants enjoy warm, humid conditions, ideally with humidity above 50–60%. Keep them away from cold drafts, air conditioners and sudden temperature changes. Use a rich, well-draining potting mix containing cocopeat, perlite and organic matter. Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 3–4 weeks during active growth. Remove faded flowers and yellowing leaves to encourage healthy new growth. With consistent moisture, humidity and filtered light, this tropical beauty makes an excellent statement plant for bright indoor spaces.
